
Inauguration of expanded facility:
• Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) inaugurated its extended Export Cargo Warehouse on 30 December 2025.
Increase in capacity:
• The new facility increases the airport’s annual export cargo handling capacity from 75,000 metric tonnes to 1.25 lakh (125,000) metric tonnes.
Enhanced infrastructure:
• The upgraded warehouse includes:
– Two additional X‑ray machines and Explosive Trace Detection (ETD) systems for improved security.
– A dedicated Dangerous Goods room.
– Two Cold Rooms maintained at controlled temperature for temperature‑sensitive exports.
– A Radioactive Cargo room.
– A Valuables room for high‑value consignments.
Officials present:
• The facility was inaugurated by S. Suhas, IAS, Managing Director of CIAL, along with E. Vikas (Deputy Commissioner of Customs), Satheesh Kumar Pai (General Manager & Head – Cargo), Manu G (Airport Director), and other senior CIAL officials.
Benefits to exporters:
• According to CIAL’s Managing Director, the expanded warehouse will:
– Improve cargo turnaround times.
– Strengthen cold‑chain support.
– Enable efficient and specialised handling of export goods.
Alignment with trade and logistics needs:
• CIAL emphasised that the expansion reflects its ongoing focus on upgrading infrastructure to meet evolving requirements in trade and logistics.
Diverse cargo handling capability:
• With the upgrade, CIAL can now reliably handle a wide range of export cargo categories, such as perishables, pharmaceuticals, dangerous goods, radioactive materials, and high‑value consignments.
