Contract award: Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has awarded a significant aviation security infrastructure contract to Godrej Enterprises Group to upgrade vehicular access and perimeter security across the airport’s main entry and exit points.
Scope of work: The project will install next-generation access gates and a comprehensive vehicle screening system at key access points in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
Advanced screening tech: The system incorporates Under Vehicle Scanning Systems (UVSS) with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) and high-performance tyre killers, designed to enhance detection capabilities and deter security threats.
First large-scale implementation: This marks CIAL’s first large-scale rollout of a vehicular access control system, reflecting a strategic focus on stronger, automated perimeter security in line with modern aviation safety standards.
Automated threat detection: Every vehicle entering designated airport zones will be subject to automated undercarriage scans and real-time threat recognition, improving the airport’s ability to identify and address security risks quickly.
Regulatory alignment: The deployment is being aligned with guidelines by the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS), supporting CIAL’s commitment to regulatory compliance and enhanced deterrence.
Industry trend: The upgrade reflects broader investment by Indian airports in advanced, regulation-ready aviation security infrastructure, with CIAL positioning itself among facilities adopting smarter, automated access management systems.
Expected outcomes: Once fully operational, the enhanced security systems are expected to improve vehicle processing workflows, raise overall perimeter protection levels, and further secure access to critical airport zones for passengers, staff, and assets.
